Do RNs need a medical director in Arizona?
Yes, for essentially all aesthetic and wellness services beyond patient education. RNs in Arizona cannot independently prescribe or evaluate patients for aesthetic treatment. A Medical Director provides the prescriptive authority and standing orders that make RN performance legal.
Can an RN inject Botox and filler in Arizona?
Yes — under Medical Director delegation with written standing orders. The MD prescribes the product, authorizes patient evaluation (directly or via protocol), and issues standing orders specifying which services the RN is delegated to perform. The Arizona State Board of Nursing has consistently held that injection falls within RN scope under proper delegation.
Can an RN do IV therapy in Arizona?
Yes. IV administration is within RN scope. The specific drips are prescription products (NAD+, vitamin C, glutathione, custom compounded), so the MD must prescribe protocols and authorize each formulation via standing orders. Without an MD, an RN cannot legally operate an IV therapy service.
Can an RN own a medspa in Arizona?
Yes — Arizona does not restrict medspa ownership to physicians or NPs. RN-owned medspas are common. However, the RN owner cannot serve as their own MD (RNs lack the prescriptive authority the role requires). Every AZ RN-owned medspa offering prescription-based services needs a physician, NP, or PA as MD.

Does the medical director need to be physically present?
For most RN-performed services in Arizona operating under standing orders and delegation, no. Off-site directorship via written protocols, standing orders, scheduled chart review, and defined-response emergency consultation access is the standard model.
