Filler is not one product
and the differences decide the result
Patients say filler as though it were a single substance. It is a category. Hyaluronic acid gels differ in how heavily they are crosslinked, how much force it takes to deform them, how much water they attract, and how cohesive they stay once placed — and those four properties decide where a given product belongs anatomically.
A firm, high G prime gel placed deep on bone provides structural lift and holds its shape under the weight of tissue above it. That same gel placed superficially in a mobile area looks and feels wrong, and may stay visible for a year. A soft, low G prime gel behaves the opposite way: excellent in the lip or for fine superficial work, useless as scaffolding.
Most early filler disappointment is a product selection error rather than a technique error. The injection was in the right plane, the volume was reasonable, and the result still looks flat — because the product chosen could not do the job asked of it. Learning the properties well enough to choose deliberately is the difference between following a protocol and actually treating a face.
Longevity is the other place honesty matters. Duration varies by product, by placement depth, by area mobility and by individual metabolism, and quoting a single figure to a patient is how you create a complaint at month seven. The course covers what you can defensibly tell a patient and what you cannot.
Crosslinking density, G prime, hydrophilicity and cohesivity. You do not need the chemistry at research level, but you do need to read a product sheet and know where that gel belongs before it is in your hand.

What foundational filler treats
and what it does not
The most requested and most misunderstood correction. Treating the fold directly is often the wrong answer; the cause is frequently midface volume loss sitting above it, and chasing the line alone produces a heavy, unnatural result.
Where structural support beats line filling, how much product a genuine correction requires, and why this area rewards patience across sessions rather than a single large volume.
Foundational-level cheek and midface work to restore the scaffolding the lower face depends on. Conservative, anatomically safe placement rather than the full structural architecture taught at advanced level.
